I loved my childhood so I am not sure there is a lot I would change, I was very fortunate growing up so I don’t want to complain. But, teaching third grade, I realize how great kids have it and how much simpler life was back then, so it would be great to go back!

There are a few things I wish I could have done differently or done more of. For starters, I wish I took the time to talk to my grandparents more and listened to their stories from the past…I am a huge history buff now and it would have been so cool to hear it straight from the horse’s mouth!

I also wish I hadn’t fought with my older sister so much, I was a big tattle tale and clearly not much fun to be around :) Finally, my two friends and I started a car wash business and one day I took $2 from the “bank” to buy snacks at a vending machine…I still feel badly about it!

It would be so fun to be a kid again!!

If I was a kid again

I’d only do this if I could keep my memories up to now. I would have paid more attention to the piano. I would have truely let myself dance in ballet class. I would have danced more with my Daddy, and accepted his offer to take me to the prom ( he died no too much longer after that). I would have been more of my own person, my own style. I would have read more books and played more childhood games and stuff.

And I would have been more of a child despite my role in a very dysfunctional family

If I Could Turn Back Time

Be a kid again…

Today’s TDC from our DS106 open, online course is a fun one. The older I get, the more I wish I could be a kid again! Life was so simple back then. Being an adult is so serious, full tough decisions and work work work. I wish I could play more! If I could turn back time knowing what I know now, I’d:

stop wishing I could grow up faster
practice the piano more, and continue to play through High School (and beyond)
relax more, I’ve always been an anxious person
be thankful for what I have, not wanting what I don’t have
be nicer to my brother
pick flowers for my mother
stay away, far away from drama!
appreciate my parents and their hard work
spend every day of summer outside
know that life’s too short to sweat the small stuff

I would be more carefree.

I grew up in a household that did not “experiment” a lot and didn’t embrace change. We hardly ever traveled let alone leave the house to do anything other than grocery shop or go see a movie. I wish I would have broken that pattern and pushed myself to go try new things on my own. Once I got a car to myself I could have done that, but by that point I was so afraid of change myself that I feel into the same pattern as my family.

I also would have enjoyed school and college more. I grew up in a house where it was expected of me to get mostly A’s if not all A’s. I didn’t strive to get many scholarships for college so what was the point of getting A’s? Nothing… I should have slacked a little bit and enjoyed the ride more than worrying about my homework as assessments. In college mainly. Between trying to keep good grades, working full time, and having “me time” I didn’t go out with my friends and relax as much as I wish I would have.

I would love to be a kid again and relax and enjoy the ride more. One this is for sure, when I have children, they will know how to have fun and enjoy life… but still also get good grades ;)
